1lb or 12oz (454g or 340g) jars of the same type
Jars fully filled to the appropriate weight
A small label (1 inch x 1 inch, 25 mm x 25 mm max) attached approx. 1/2 inch (12 mm) from the bottom of each jar identifying:
- The type: e.g. heather, moorland (from bees working both heather and wildflower) or non heather.
- The style: e.g. runny, naturally crystallised, soft set, chunk
To be judged by a member of the Ryedale Beekeepers Association and will be judged equally on presentation and aroma/taste.

Set Recipe : Half pound dates, half teaspoon bi-carbonate of soda, quarter pint of
boiling water, 2oz margarine, 6oz sugar, 1 egg, half pound flour, 2oz chopped
Walnuts, 2oz sultanas, pinch of salt.
Method : Dissolve bi-carb of soda in water, pour over dates and leave until cold,
Beat margarine and sugar, then add all ingredients.
Set recipe : 5oz margarine or butter, 5oz caster sugar, 3 eggs, few drops of almond or
Vanilla essence, 4oz glace cherries (chopped), 8oz SR Flour
Method : Toss cherries in some of the flour, cream fat and sugar, beat in lightly whisked
eggs, with a little flour. Add essence then fold in remaining flour, add cherries.
Place mixture in a greased loaf tin. Bake at 324-350F (electric) reglo 3-4 (gas) for
1 and a quarter hours.
Ingredients : 2 eggs, 3oz Caster Sugar, 3oz Plain Flour.
Break eggs into a bowl, whisk lightly, add sugar, then whisk well until thick and creamy.
Sieve flour, fold lightly into mixture. Place in a well greased, 7 inch cake tin.
Bake in a moderate oven
Ingredients: 8oz SR flour, 4oz butter or margarine, 8oz liquid honey, 2 medium eggs
4oz sultanas, 4oz currants, 2oz mixed peel, pinch of nutmeg, pinch of salt, 3 teaspoons of milk
Method: Cream butter and honey together. Beat in eggs slowly, sieve flour and nutmeg
and fold in alternately with the dried fruit. Add enough milk to make a soft consistency.
Bake in a well buttered 7 inch (approx) round tin for 1 ¼ hours in a moderate oven.
Finished cake to be displayed on a white doyley and enclosed in a plastic bag.
