Lincolnshire Fleece Competition

Judge: Mr C Jarvis
STAMFORD
Judging will take place on Wednesday
(THE FLEECE COMPETITION WILL BE STAGED IN THE SHEEP LINES.)

Showing your fleece is not as daunting as you may think, all that is needed is a clean fleece, patience, and practice. If you do not want to exhibit your sheep, then it is a good way to show off your flock and it does not need a trailer or a very early start!
First choose your fleece using the following as a guide:

It needs to be pleasing to the eye and typical of the breed.
The fleece must be as even as possible in that it should have the same crimp (curl) from the front to the back and it should be a good length for the age of the sheep.
Shearling fleeces are longer and are, in general, the best fleeces to show as the sheep will not have had a lamb, therefore reducing the problem of stress marks.
The fleece must be as clean as you can get it, make sure that you remove all the bits of hay, cotty wool (usually around the neck and chest where it has become wet and felted together) just pull this away and discard it, also any bits of hedge or foreign objects.
Artificial colouring is not permitted i.e., bloom dips.

Conditions
1 A competitor may enter any number of the classes, but can only submit two fleeces per class.
2 For the purpose of the competition the fleeces must be neatly rolled and submitted in bags.
3 The bag must be labelled by the competitor. Each label must show clearly:
• Name of Competitor
• Address of Competitor
• Class entered
• Breed or Cross
• ONE LABEL should be placed inside the container; the OTHER secured on the outside.

4 All exhibits must be delivered to the Steward of the section by 5.30pm. on Tuesday 17 June, or they will be too late for competition.
Exhibits should not arrive before 18 June, and should be removed from the Showground between 4.00pm and 5.00pm on Thursday 19 June.
The Society will not be responsible for the safe delivery or keeping of the fleeces. Any fleeces not collected will be disposed of. If
applicable, collect Prize Payment Vouchers from the LAS office, Sir Joseph Nickerson Building from 4.00pm, Wednesday 18 June OR Thursday 19 June.
5 If there are fewer than 5 entries for any particular class, the number of prizes awarded will be at the discretion of the judge.
6 Fleeces that are artificially stained or artificially coloured or fastened with any form of twine will be eliminated.
7 The competition will be judged on a points system and the decision of the Judge is final.
8 It is the competitor's responsibility to ensure that fleeces are entered in the correct class. The Judge will judge a fleece in the most appropriate class.
9 Fleeces must be from the 2025 wool clip.
