Horses will be judged by a conformation and a ride judge. Prize winners in Classes E1 - E7 are eligible for the grand parade.

In addition, two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate Finals at the BSHA National Championship Show in September.

Open to horses and ponies, 4 years old or over, exceeding 146cms, but not exceeding 160cms. Suitable to be ridden by a rider not to have attained their 25th birthday before 1st January in the current year. This class incorporates Intermediate Show Riding Type and Intermediate Show Hunter.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, not exceeding 153cm of show pony or show hunter pony type. Riders not to have attained their 20th birthday on 1st January in the current year. Riders not to have ridden in any class at HOYS (except lead rein and Search for a Star), or LIHS Heritage Supreme Ridden Championship and not to have been placed 1st-8th in any ridden show class at RIHS (except lead rein and Pretty Polly classes) in 2023 and 2024. Riders must be suitably mounted and ponies must not be undersized for the rider. Ponies and riders may be professionally produced as long as they adhere to the above criteria.

This Competition is open to mares and geldings four years old or over, registered in the main body of their respective Mountain and Moorland Stud Book. Not exceeding 122cms. To be led by an attendant and shown in a snaffle bit, the leading rein to be attached to the noseband only. The reins must go directly from the bit to the rider’s hands. (Riders must not have attained their 9th birthday by 1st January in the current year).

This Competition is open to mares and geldings four years old or over, registered in the main body of their respective Mountain and Moorland Stud Book. Not exceeding 128cms. (Riders must not have attained their 12th birthday by 1st January in the current year).

Qualifying Class, run under SSA Rules defined in the current Member’s Handbook. Open to SSA Members and Non-Members. Members carrying their current Championship Points Cards are eligible for SSA rosettes to 3rd Adult and 3rd Junior places and SSA Championship Points. Southernden Farm sponsor a rosette to the highest placed Member aged under 14 on 1st January of the  current year. A rosette sponsored in memory of The Late Mr R Philpot is offered to the Adult Member. Just So Elegant Side Saddle Hire sponsor a rosette for the Junior Member, judged to be the best turned out.

The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by horse/pony and rider. Attention may be paid to the rider’s personal appearance but detailed inspection of rider or tack is not required. Fancy dress or period costume is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and canter. No individual show is required, but the Judge may ask groups of 3 or 4 riders to give short displays. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult and Junior Members of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Cards. N.B. Silk hats are permitted to be worn by Adults in this class at any time of the day. Juniors must wear hats to current Safety standards or above for this class. Adult riders not wearing such hats do so at their own risk.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cm, to carry a side saddle and to be ridden by a lady. Open to ALL types and to be judged on performance. Rider to be 15yrs or over. There will be no conformation marks awarded in the class (exhibits will not be stripped). The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Side Saddle Style Performance Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. Qualification will be confirmed by email once BSHA membership is completed within 14 days of qualification. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Style & Performance final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Rising Star Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring. (2025)

Qualification will be confirmed by email once BSHA membership is completed within 14 days of qualification. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horse regardless of sections will qualify for the Rising Star Associate Finals at the BSHA National Championship Show in September.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 155cms - to be judged as Cobs. Rider to be 15yrs or over. Judges must pay particular attention to type (i.e. short legged animals of COB type). To be shown hogged. The highest placed unqualified in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Maxi Cob Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. Qualification will be confirmed by email once BSHA membership is completed within 14 days of qualification. In addition, two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate Finals at the BSHA National Championship Show in September.

Horses are only eligible to qualify for the Small OR Large section, not both, please only enter either the Small or Large section.

This class is open to competitors who work within the racing industry. The top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Hack/Riding Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. Qualification will be confirmed by email once BSHA membership is completed within 14 days of qualification. In addition, two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the rising star associate finals at the BSHA National Championship Show in September.

The highest placed unqualified in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Working Show Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. QUALIFICATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL ONCE BSHA MEMBERSHIP IS COMPLETED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF QUALIFICATION. Any horse which is Grade B Showjumper, Intermediate Eventer, or above as at 1st January of the current year, is not eligible. Height of fences: minimum 2’6”, maximum 2’9”, maximum spread 2’9”. Please note the height of the fences may be raised at the final at the discretion of the Course builder/ BSHA Representative. A Rider may ride up to two Horses in the jumping phase only and then must select one Horse to take through to the Individual Show & Conformation stage. No change of Rider is allowed.

Open to Hunters, mare or gelding four years old and over, exceeding 148cms. Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Working Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. QUALIFICATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL ONCE BSHA MEMBERSHIP IS COMPLETED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF QUALIFICATION. Any horse which is registered / previously registered as a Grade A Showjumper, Advanced Eventer, or above as at 1st January of the current year, is not eligible. Height of fences: minimum 3’0”, maximum 3’3”, maximum spread 3’3”. Please note the height of the fences may be raised at the final at the discretion of the Coursebuilder/ BSHA Representative. A Rider may ride up to two Horses in the jumping phase only and then must select one Horse to take through to the Individual Show & Conformation stage. No change of Rider is allowed.

In Lead Rein WSP classes the Judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony classes.

Mare or Gelding, 4yrs old and over, Registered and unregistered Mountain and Moorland ponies not exceeding 128cms. Ridden by a child to have attained their 6th birthday on the 1st January in the current year and not to attain their 12th birthday by 1st January in the current year. Any suitable snaffle bridle.
