Farms and Crops

A farm which, in the opionion of the judges, has done most to encourage conservation alongside a successful commercial activity. Conservation will be taken to include flora and fauna but consideration will also be given to landscape and historical interests. APPROX. ACREAGE OF FARM MUST BE STATED WITH ENTRY.

The crop must be 5 acres or more, excluding Bird Covers.

Points will be awarded as follows:
1 Straightness 15 points
2 Start, finish and bout matching 25 points
3 Uniformity 25 points
4 Drilling depth 15 points
5 Topography, field size and shape 10 points
Maximum: 90 points
Whole field to be judged with a minimum 5 acres. The name of drill operator is to be stated when entering. This class
may be judged in sectors or combinations of sectors, if warranted by the number of entries. The use of GPS to be
declared when entering and class will be split for judging accordingly.

3 Finish 10 points
4 Ins & Outs 10 points
5 Appearance 10 points
Maximum: 50 points
To be judged in February. Whole field to be judged with a minimum 5 acres. The name of plough operator is to be
stated when entering. The use of GPS to be declared when entering and class will be split for judging accordingly.

Grown above or below ground (except Potatoes, see classes 22-24).

A sample, weighing 5lbs, will be judged for appearance, cooking and
eating. Samples will be collected when judging of Classes 22 and 23 takes place. Samples of crops not
entered in Classes 22 and 23 must be delivered to the Show Office not later than date of field judging.

Kale, swedes, turnips, fodder beet and mangolds. Exhibitors to state the species of roots to be judged; if there are sufficent entries of one particular root crop, the class will be split.

Planted after a crop harvested in the same season.

For the best farm invention/adaption designed and/or constructed by any members or their staff. This includes hand
tools, machinery and adaptations to fixed equipment and machinery, large or small. Entries must relate to the working
within the farming environment. Previous winning inventions/designs cannot be re-entered the following year. This
class is also open to Young Farmers Clubs and Agricultural Farm Machinery dealerships within the Society area
This competition will be split into Simple and Complex categories for judging if entries allow. Please state when
entering if your entry is simple or complex. The judge may change the category of your entry if they feel it is in the
incorrect one.

To be judged on the section of hedge, 11 yards (1/2 chain) in length; to have been newly cut and laid within the last 12 months.

To be judged on the section of machine trimmed hedge, 100 yards in length. The quality of the trim will be judged, not the species mix or health of hedge.

To be judged on the continuous section of wall, 11 yards (1/2 chain) in length, to have been newly constructed or repaired during the last 12 months.

Judge to consider of the following:
• how the store fits in with the rest of the farm (temporary/permanent),
• use of drying facilities (if applicable),
• cleanliness & tidiness,
• state of grain in store (smell, temperature, moisture), pest control.
